Revenue Analysis

WPA has specialist expertise in the analysis of rail revenue and demand data. We have a detailed understanding of the process of revenue allocation within the rail industry, including extensive knowledge of how ticket revenue in Greater London from the Travelcard and Pay As You Go products is apportioned. We have expertise in the use of industry standard analysis tools such as MOIRA and LENNON.

Example projects include:

  •  Revenue analysis, forecasting and support for Directly Operated Railways (DOR) in preparation for taking over the East Coast franchise

  •  Analytical support to an Open Access Operator in the development of a business case for the operation of new services on the West Coast Main Line

  •  Analysis to support ATOC negotiations with London Councils with respect to the value of travel on TOC services within London on the Freedom Pass product

  •  Analytical support to ATOC on the Travelcard Diary Survey project; through managing the survey fieldwork (undertaken by an external contractor) and analysis of survey data to calculate quarterly updates of Travelcard Revenue Apportionment Factors

  •  Development of a model to provide advice to ATOC on the predicted impact on TOC revenue of implementing Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) on National Rail TOCs in London, and supported ATOC in the specification, validation and testing of the TfL revenue apportionment system for PAYG.
